The visuals of this piece were made in Processing. Snowflakes are randomly generated periodically or when the left mouse button is clicked. Every time a snowflake hits one of the strings, data is sent through OSC to ChucK.
A physical model of a mandolin in ChucK is used to create the sounds. The x position of where the snowflake hits changes where the virtual string of the mandolin is struck, as well as the panning.
The speed and size of the snowflake changes the force that the virtual string is struck with.
