The prime purpose of radio communication is to convey information from one place to another through the intervening media without wires—for example, an RFID interrogator sending or receiving data to or from an RFID tag. A carrier wave, typically a sinusoidal wave, is used to transport the information. The carrier wave is a radio wave of a specific frequency and amplitude broadcast by the transmitter to carry information. Information is conveyed by modulating the carrier wave. The three key parameters of a wave are its amplitude, its phase, and its frequency, all of which can be modified in accordance with an information signal to obtain the modulated signal.
